Council has received application 2094/2025/DA-SW which proposes a subdivision including a new road in the suburb of Bardia.

The road naming theme used for Bardia was military heritage connected with the Ingleburn Military Camp, formally located where the suburb of Bardia now stands. Council proposes to use a name from this theme for the new road proposed above.

Some names of renowned Battle Honours that were previously used include Tobruk (1941), Alamein (1942), Scarlet Beach (1943) and Sio (1943-1944). The name proposed for a new road in the suburb of Bardia is:

  • Nambut: Conflict Second World War, 1939-1945
The Australian War Memorial website records that this honour is awarded for participation in the operations to secure Nambut Ridge (also known as Nambut Hill) on the northern coast of New Guinea, east of Aitape between 19 January 1945 – 19 February 1945

This was one of the names reported to Council’s Planning and Environment Committee Meeting of 11 October 2011, endorsed by the full Council meeting of 18 October 2011.

Council is now seeking your feedback on the above proposed road name for use in the suburb of Bardia.

Submissions received during the exhibition period will be reviewed and possibly reported back to the next Ordinary Meeting of Council for a decision before requesting final approval by the NSW Geographic Names Board (GNB).
