Urban Greening Plan
Consultation has concluded
Trees play an essential role in our urban areas. They are the front line of defence to urban heat and provide many important ecosystem benefits such as protection against floods and water pollution; they filter the air and remove fine particulates not to mention produce oxygen and provide habitat for fauna. The number of trees and extent of these benefit can be assessed by measuring a City’s canopy cover. Council recently undertook a state of the art aerial canopy mapping project to measure canopy and urban heat, it revealed that we currently have some of the lowest urban canopy coverage, with some suburbs having canopy cover as low as 6%, and some of the highest urban heat in all of NSW.
What's happening?
We are developing an Urban Greening Plan which will define how Council manages and will seek to improve our urban forest for current and future generations. To support the development of the plan, we need your help to ensure your opinions and insights are considered so that we can deliver an urban forest that provides maximum benefits to all.
