The Hall of Heroes with Matt Reichert
Consultation has concluded
We were lucky enough to spend some time with Matt Reichert from The Hall of Heroes, here is his story.
When did you start your business / how long have you been operating?
The Hall of Heroes opened in October 2010 and this year we celebrated our 10 year anniversary.
Originally we were situated across the road from Rashays, we then moved to a location across the road from the Spotlight arcade. In September this year, we moved into our current location inside the Spotlight Arcade. Our current store is our favourite location – it used to be a comic book store.
Why did you start your business?
Gaming is a passionate hobby of mine. I had previously worked at numerous gaming stores including Warhammer for over 14 years. I lived in New Zealand for 2 years, then returned and opened the Games Workshop Parramatta store which I managed and also worked for Games Workshop at their head office in Ingleburn.
Why did you choose to open in Campbelltown? What do you love about Campbelltown?
I used to live in the area for 9 years, there was no other store in Campbelltown offering table top gaming.
The community here in Campbelltown is strong, there are a lot of passionate dedicated gamers. I’m proud to say that my team and I know our repeat customers by name – this is the type of relationship I have with all of our members, and one that has been adopted by the team of great people I work with.
Tell us about your business?
My store provides people the opportunity to gather with like-minded members of the gaming community. You can chat about and play your favourite game in our gaming hall, or browse the wide range of games and hobby products. We specialise in a niche market - people come back again and again, which I love to see.
Other products we offer include; Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000, Warlord Games, Bolt Action, Fantasy Flight Games, X-Wing Miniatures Game, Magic the Gathering, Battlefront Miniatures, Hobby Games, Card Games and Board Games.
We also buy Magic the Gathering cards or trade them in to obtain in-store credit which can be spent on any products in store. Magic the Gathering Cards sometimes can be worth a lot of money. One sold recently overseas for $80,000USD.
We also have card game tournaments and sell many Star Wars and Marvel Universe licenced Games.
What is something special or unique about your business?
We have our own neighbourhood, which is how I like to describe our community - we are all like-minded and passionate people.
We hold regular tournaments, usually on weekends or after hours, which means that we will be able to hold post COVID restrictions up to 70-80 people. Humans are social creatures, they enjoy interaction – we once held a tournament that attracted 125 people at the Civic Centre, Campbelltown.
We also have an extensive range of painted miniatures inside the display cabinets at the front of the store for people to look at. We can coordinate a free demonstration game for any potential player interested in learning more.
