Consultation has concluded

“Macarthur Gardens North” is the marketing title for a development that creates new roads for access to shops and new houses near Macarthur Train Station. The theme used for the “Macarthur Gardens” estate was Renowned Public Gardens of the World, and Council proposes to continue using names from this theme in the “Macarthur Gardens North” development.

Some names of renowned public gardens that were previously used in the “Macarthur Gardens” estate include Carlton (Melbourne, Australia), Hidcote (England) and Stowe (England). The names proposed to be used in the “Macarthur Gardens North” estate include the following names of Australian and Japanese gardens of significance:

  • Booderee (botanic gardens in Jervis Bay, Australian Capital Territory)
  • Burnley (public gardens in Melbourne, Victoria)
  • Everglades (public gardens in Leura, New South Wales)
  • Flagstaff (public gardens in Melbourne Victoria)
  • Flecker (part of Cairns botanic gardens in Cairns, Queensland)
  • Mount Lofty (botanic Gardens in Mount Lofty, South Australia)
  • Sandringham (memorial gardens in Hyde Park, New South Wales)
  • Wittunga (botanic gardens in Blackwood, South Australia)
  • Korakuen (public gardens in Tokyo, Japan)

These were some of the names reported to Council’s Planning and Environment Committee meeting of 22 February 2005, endorsed by the full Council meeting of 1 March 2005 and recommended to be advertised for public consultation. Any submissions received during the exhibition period will be reviewed and possibly reported back to the next Ordinary Meeting of Council for a final decision.
