The Menangle Park development will create over 100 new roads, each requiring a name. The primary theme for these road names is Australian Racehorses, inspired by the nearby Harness Racing track. In addition, on 13 July 2021, Councillor Morrison proposed that names of former property owners in the suburb of Menangle Park be acknowledged with road names in the development of the area from farmland to residential.

These former land holders owned property from the 1820s through to 1890s. They were identified in the report “Non-Indigenous Heritage Study – Menangle Park” prepared by Casey & Lowe Pty Ltd for Landcom and Campbelltown City Council in March 2010. Remains of their properties are recorded in Part 8A - Menangle Park Precinct in the Campbelltown Development Control Plan.

Of the 16 names listed in the report, “Taber” and “Mount Pleasant” are already in use as road names in Menangle Park. Most of the others have been found to duplicate other road names in the area. The four names that remain are:

  • Vardy – owned land in the area from 1840 to 1895. In addition to owning farming properties in the Menangle Park area for many years, a number of family members, while living in Menangle Park or Campbelltown, served in World War I or World War II
  • Noone – a significant property owner in the Menangle Park area
  • Edrop – a significant property owner in the Menangle Park area
  • Tyson – owned 40 acres in the Menangle Park/Glenlee area and also had a thriving farming business in rural areas of NSW and QLD.

These four names were reported to Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 26 March 2024 and recommended to be advertised for public consultation. All submissions received during the exhibition period will be reviewed and reported back to the next Ordinary Council Meeting for a final decision.
