The Community Facilities Strategy sets out the framework to guide the provision of Community Facilities for the medium and long term. It has been used to make strategic decisions about assets including Community Halls, Libraries, Childcare and Youth Spaces. As our city continues to grow, a review of the strategy has been undertaken to ensure it provides effective strategic guidance.

Proposed amendments to the Community Facilities Strategy

  • Provide new best practice case study examples
  • Establish next steps / action for strategic alignment of facilities with strategy
  • Clearly define community facilities and strategy inclusions / exclusions and reasoning
  • Establish model to deliver a network of facilities with a city-wide hierarchy
  • Define facility inclusions at regional / city wide, district and local level
  • Include updated population projections and conducted facility needs assessment at a regional / city wide, district level to determine provision rates
  • Identify required and desirable facility improvements across community facilities network.

Additionally, as part of the review, performance assessments have been undertaken using broader geographical areas, now referred to as Community Districts. This will provide practical framework for dividing the Local Government Area into North, South, Central and West to support coordinated planning and delivery of community infrastructure.
