The Macarthur Homelessness Steering Committee (MHSC) is seeking information from schools and service providers about young people experiencing homelessness or risk of homelessness in the Macarthur Region. 2016 Census data tells us that there has been a significant increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness in the Macarthur Region. We also know that in 2016, 24% of people experiencing homelessness in Australia are aged between 12 and 24 years of age (2016 Australian Census). Youth homelessness is a growing issue. The data collected through this survey will assist the MHSC to better understand the issues facing young people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, particularly in the availability of appropriate services to address needs. The MHSC will use the data to inform further research and targeted activities to address youth homelessness by its members.
Campbelltown City Council, as a member of the MHSC, is collecting the data on behalf of the group via this survey. If you would like to discuss the survey or seek access to the consolidated data please contact the Community Life team at community.life@campbelltown.nsw.gov.au
Definitions:
Homelessness isn't just sleeping rough. It can also mean people living in temporary situations such as specialist accommodation services, sleeping on a mate's couch, or with a family that isn't your own.
Referral can mean a formal referral from service to service (e.g. an appointment is made) or the provision of information about, or offer of support to connect to a service.
Service can mean a homelessness specific service or other mainstream supports (e.g. Centrelink, food supply, case management, early intervention).
