Construction Phase

We're upgrading Koshigaya Park with new play equipment and landscaping.

The new playground will honour the history of Campbelltown's long-term sister city relationship with Koshigaya through a range of design elements, including the centrepiece origami crane-themed play structure and the planting of cherry blossom trees around the playground.

What's coming to the playground?

The origami play structure will include a climbing net, basket swing, jungle ropes, slide, talking tube, pommel crossing, xylophone.

The surrounding playground will feature a flying fox, swing set, shade sail, combination play unit, embankment play area with slide and climbing rope and active play area with carousel, seesaw, climbing dice and in-ground trampoline.

Twenty Cherry Blossom trees will be planted to provide shade. Cherry Blossom trees are commonly found throughout Japan, and the cherry blossom is considered the national flower of the country.

Artwork marks 40 years of friendship with Koshigaya.

Campbelltown signed a Sister City agreement with Koshigaya City, Japan on 11 April 1984. What began as an agreement has developed into a more meaningful relationship, with a range of exchange programs and activities taking place over the years.

We celebrated 40 years of friendship in 2024 and to honour this long-standing relationship, new entrance signage will be installed at Koshigaya Park, featuring an artwork by Japanese contemporary artist Midori Furze.

The artwork, titled Fold with Love, features a series of unfolded origami doves to showcase the origami-making process, alongside stylised wording to greet visitors, which will include the origami dove in its finals form.

The signage will be accompanied by a Möbius Ring sculpture, symbolising the long-lasting friendship between the two cities.

The soft-fall base of the monument has been designed in a pattern that represents the 5 main rivers that flow through Koshigaya.
