As part of the Campbelltown Arts Centre Expansion Project (the Project), Heritage Consultants Curio Projects Pty Ltd (Curio) are producing, on behalf of Campbelltown City Council, an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment Report (ACHAR) to support our State Significant Development Application (SSDA).
An ACHAR is a formal study undertaken to identify, assess, and manage potential impacts on First Nations cultural heritage before development or ground disturbance occurs. It combines archaeological investigation with consultation undertaken with First Nations community representatives to ensure that both scientific and cultural perspectives are considered. The ACHAR outlines the known and potential presence of culturally sensitive sites or objects, assesses their significance, and provides recommendations for how to avoid or minimise harm through design, monitoring, or permitting. Completing an ACHAR ensures the Project meets statutory obligations and general due diligence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 to demonstrate that cultural heritage has been appropriately considered as part of the planning and approvals process.
Curio will soon commence First Nations community consultation as part of this ACHAR process. The purpose of community consultation is to assist Council in the preparation of an application for an Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) in accordance with Section 90 of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, and to assist the NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment in their consideration and determination of the SSDA for the Arts Centre Expansion project.
Curio invite local First Nations community who hold cultural knowledge relevant to determining the significance of Aboriginal object(s) and/or places in the area to register an interest in a process of community consultation.
Please forward registrations to Curio Projects no later than 3 December 2025, via phone, email or mail to:
